Ran Out of Gas - Now will not start

I ran out of gas in my Honda Rancher and after filling it back up it will not start. It turns over but will not start.

Were you running it on reserve?

Unscrew the carb drain does fuel run out the hose coming off the bottom? No? No fuel in carb.

Pull the fuel line off the carb and see if fuel runs out—if no then your petcock is clogged

If yes, then your float valve is clogged or float sticking in up position?

you maybe have sucked water and dirt out the bottom of the tank and fouled your carb , open the drain screw on the bottom of the carb and let some fresh fuel run thru it , that is if your petcock or tank screen are not clogged up and fuel is getting to the carb

Oh a fuelie—you didn’t mention that at first.

Look for the service manuals in my links below and the parts breakouts too. The fuelie has an internal filter. Don’t know what the tank drain looks like either or how to restore the prime on the pump.

First double check that the kill switch is in the "Run" position.

Do you hear the fuel pump running for a second when you turn the key on? If not, bang on the sub-tank with a plastic screwdriver handle and see if the pump starts up when turning the key on.

If the pump starts after tapping on the sub-tank you'll need to replace it immediately because it is about to quit forever. Ranchers have wimpy, junk fuel pumps in them.
