2007 Rancher 420 Relay Issues

Hello all,

New here. I've come searching for info and hoping someone has seen a similar problem to the one I'm having. I bought a 2007 Rancher 420 4wd foot shift model. It has a bad starter I believe which is no big deal to replace, you can tap on the side of the starter and get the engine to spin over. My main issue is with the key on, kill switch in run, and the headlights off the fuel pump/engine stop relay will sit there and click very quickly, 2 to 3 times a second I'd say. If I turn the headlights on the clicking stops. If I turn the kill switch to stop the clicking stops and what I assume is the fuel pump turning on briefly like it does when you first turn the key on if everything were normal. If I push the starter button the clicking stops. I've replaced the fuel pump/engine stop relay and that didn't change anything. I cleaned the battery to engine ground cable connections along with the engine to frame/wiring harness ground cable connections with no change as well.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for any info you guys have in advance.

Justin

What is the battery voltage? Sounds like the battery may be weak.

I agree with checking the battery voltage when cranking with the starter. As far as replacing the starter goes, you probably only need new brushes that come with a starter repair kit and are quite inexpensive.
