2008 420 Rancher, Rodent Problem

2nd year in a row now that I’ve pulled dead, red-backed voles, out of the air box! They are crawling into the air box, when It is parked for the Winter... For some reason they can get in, but, not out. When you find them, they are dried up... Anybody put a screen or something over the opening on these air boxes?
I’m going to have to take it apart and come up with a fix. It is generally too cold to ride in Dec/Jan up here...

Use a hot glue gun and coarse screen to block the intake tube or the airbox.

Hot glue can be removed if you donít like it and can also be reworked with a hair dryer.
And use mothballs in the airbox.
Thereís also no his stuff called rodent stopper; i spray it in my shed seems to keep out rodents

I was just looking at snorkel kits over on the highlifter site. The stealth model might work, I canít see enough on the site to figure it out. The standard snorkel sticking straight up, would get knocked off in no time, running through the thick forest up here.

seems you don't need a tall snorkel , just go right over the top of the handle bars , I would guesstamate about $40 worth of pipes and fittings

That sounds like a quick fix, using a screen. Never ending ordeal up here, if it isnít shrews or voles getting in there, itís squirrels stashing spruce cones everywhere! The weasels and marten used to come through here and clean house on the rodents, they have been slacking lately...

moles and mice are a huge issue for me here on anything left outside
I tried a lot of things and won't say any worked that great., as its NOT just the air box that gets filled here, but also, wires get chewed on
moth balls don;t work here,
a screen on air box, can help keep mice out, but I then found I get a lot of spiders making nests and then things don;'t flow right(summer time) with them plugging up the screen like!

they do sell exhaust plugs, you can use to PLUG the air box hole over storage time, if you just wanted to do this, if your only issue's are over winter storage?
I have yet to find a spray that keeps them out /off atv all together, or from chewing wires
wish someone would make something better than what is out there now LOL
as I however have to park things indoors where no small critter can get to them! or move them a LOT
