Excellent post. I have a situation where I can't go up the same hill in 2nd gear that I used to be able to in the past. Now when I shift into 2nd gear it starts to lose ground. I pulled the carb and checked/cleaned/adjusted everything. no change. any ideas?

Saber6, you hit the nail right on the head! I should have thought of exhaust restriction but it never entered my mind. Last year I bought a stealth muffler add-on for the Rancher. I never thought it would reduce my power. I haven't really done anything that required power lately. I took off the add-on muffler and the old beast turned into a rocket ship. Thanks, I might have done something stupid like buy a new carb without your advice

A lot of the time with aftermarket mufflers, you have to rejet your carb. FYI.

i'll have to check into carb re-jetting. I'm gonna miss my stealth muffler. it allowed me to go places without attracting too much attention. maybe I'll fabricate a by-pass for that secondary muffler that I can actuate when I need more power. any bright ideas?
