What do you do for work and do you enjoy it?

I work on a thoroughbred stud and enjoy my work, even though the hours can be antisocial - it's currently 2:20am and I've just finished work!
Edit: started at 6am yesterday!

Remodeling contractor

I do a little of just about everything, when the weather is great and I'm outside or crappy and I'm inside and turning something ugly into something nice that makes the customer happy. I think it would be great to not have to worry about finances then I could do stuff for people for free. I like it. New stuff is fun too, not having to tear out is a plus. Like to make furniture as well. Made this bed, my wife wanted the basement finished out so I made all the trim, sheeted my doors put in the faux beams, finished out 1300 sq ft for about $5500 in materials. It's our favorite part of the house especially in the winter. Made the cabinets for the kitchenette out of the extra flooring. Would like to say it was fun but......working a 10 day doing construction and coming home and putting in another 8-9 hours got a bit monotonous at times.

I work at maintaining an amateur status. :-)

I'm done with working in a career job again. Been there and tried too many. Many of them were unintentional, gaining legs recklessly from an unknown skill, a project, a hobby, or an idea. I got lucky more than a few times gambling with chance and some very long odds, cause there was never a conscious plan made to follow or execute.

I had fun with most of them too, somehow. None ever held my interest beyond "the new is beginning to wear off" stage though. Except for one, but methanol isn't anymore stable long term than I am! Those challenges I craved and fed on daily eventually became stinky and stale like the others had, as I aged.

I still flip wrenches out of habit I guess. I didn't smile much when I was doing it for a living, but when it ceased to be serious business anymore, it became fun again.

Nowadays I'm into personal independence and self reliance. Being an amateur provides plenty of cover (and excuses) for pursuing that. :-)

I have been a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union since 1976 , I went the mechanical route , but along the way I did learn to run every piece of equipment , my Dad was an Crane Operator and told me " if you can't operate it , then how can you fix it " , went thru a 4 year apprenticeship training program working on heavy equipment , and a few welding courses , I do mobile repairs on any type of construction equipment , hydraulics is my favorite ---- I was into 4x4 trucks , and switched to ATV's , so much cheaper and easier to deal with
