tires
Will tires that are 3 inches wider than the rim still mount and not give trouble about being too fat for rim?

Yeah they should but that'll take away power.

They will look like balloons and can cause some handling issues.

the rim is 5 inches wide and the tire is 8 inches wide. does it still take away power?

The wider the tire the more drag it will have equaling less power.
