84 Honda ATC 200ES Carb Problems

Hi everyone, Heres the Entire Story.... I traded 2 push mowers for a beat up 84 atc 200es that didnt run, got it home, compression tested it - 120, checked the spark and could use a new plug...ok. motor was not getting gas though so I figured il clean the carb because the needle was stuck in the seat. Which it was.... there was also an 1/8" of green crap in the bowl and all over the jets etc... so I cleaned it out all nice, got the needle moving well not sticking, put it back together and turned the petcock on and fuel started pouring out the vent tube? bike still wouldnt start, so I re cleaned the carb thinking that the float was stuck which it was not, put it back together and same thing.... so i took my ratchet and tapped the bowl of the carb and it stoped leaking out the vent tube, Since then I have taken the bike out a few times but the throttle always has to be feathered to keep it running or it will die out, and will not start untill the throttle is applyed then fires right up... it is also very jumpy and has a hard time finding a consistant idle when driving.

It has a plastic float that I can not seem to find an adjustment for..

Anyone dealt with this before normally carbs dont give me this much trouble :S

I am taking it camping in the bush tommorow ither way and would like it to run nicly

Thanks For Reading!

Sounds like your carb is still dirty. Make sure that slow jet isn't clogged and clean out the passage way that the slow jet screws into. I don't remember if that model has an adjustable float or not, but I doubt it. If it's adjustable, it will have a brass tang where the float needle attaches to it and you have to bend the tang to adjust it. If the float doesn't have a brass tang, there's no adjustment. Could also be a bad float.

cleaned the carb again, no dirt or green stuff. I have a spare carb which I believe is for a 250 but the floats where the same, made shure the needle float where free which they were and turned the fuel on, 15 seconds later there goes the gas comming out the vent line again. I tapped the bowl with a screw driver and it stopped again. That was a failed attept of round 3 I have never had a problem like this before I am thinking of buying one of those cheap carbs from ebay for 30 bucks, I know that there chineese but I would much rather fix this one then buy a chineese carb

Looked On Ebay For Full Rebuild Kits And Couldn't Find Any With The Float... I Will Call Royal Distributing Tommorow To See If They Have A Float But Im Going To Try To Put The 250 (Think Its A 250) Carb On it Tommorow Just To See If It Does The Same Thing.

I had the same problem with a float on one of my 500s one time, but after I tapped on the carb a couple of times to free the float up,and it got good n wet with gas it never leaked again...It had been dry for quite awhile prior to my cleaning, and rebuilding the carb, and I assume the gas helped it to loosen up...This also happened on a 300 a few years back the same way...

Only Problem is once you tap the bowl and it stops leaking through the vent tube is that it wont idle and is hard to start, that needle and float are making me MADDD!! :O still havnt tryed the 250 carb yet but I am going to be doing that asap, been working on to many snowmobiles and need to get back to big red.

Ok forgot to post the outcome which wasnt very good. I never noticed the crack in the bowl of the carb so I didnt even try to use it for ovious reasons. Im going to go to royal distributing and pick up a carb kit and try that before buying a whole new carb!
