Thumbs down differential problems

We rebuilt my rear differential about a month ago the previous owners lost shims when they rebuilt it. We got that part ok and done but it is wearing just a little from the new shim. Now is has fine metal shavings in it we have changed the oil and rolled the axel while washing it out with karosene.Any tips on getting more shavings out? The idiots that had it before us ruined where the pinion bearing is, on the top of the round part with a hacksaw. Its ok if it ruins its self because i will be getting new cases, gears and maybe a rear axle just because mine has be beaten on the end with a hammer it works ok though. For a couple years it wont be used that hard so it should last a little while. Also do any of you know of any front brake rotor and cylinder kits? Just so i wont worry about brakes. It still has engine brakeing but just in case i need some.
