2001 honda trx400ex starting problems

hi a newbie here
i have a 01 honda trx400ex sportstrax
it has me very puzzled at this point this is what is going on after riding it picks it's times when it wants to start back.... some times it starts fine 4-5 times then nothing ....sometimes it wont start back
what i know it's getting fire gas is going to carb.
what i've researched.. honda's service/repair manual
on line forums
asked everyone i know who knows anything about atvs
please help i just bought this 400 about 2 weeks ago and put a new pistion and ring kit in it

I would start with a valve adjustment if the valves are improperly adjusted it will cause a hard start or no start

thats very true if the valves are too far off, which happens from a lot of riding and no tlc, it will cause serious starting problems.. could be a variety of things though, may just be a short in the wire. or in the kill switch.

I had a similar problem to that and it turned out to be a ground that had just gotten a little too corroded and wasn't making a great connection all the time.
