2004 Foreman 450 S Won't start.

I just bought a Foreman 450S 04'. It wont start/run. I've tried spraying starting fluid in the Carb, but it will only backfire occasionally. It has a new spark plug, The wire shocked the **** outa me when trying to crank it once, so im assuming it has spark. The motor has good compression.

The guy i bought it from said he changed the pulse module, in the motor? Also something was plugged in the wrong connector, and would not shift into neutral, but that problem has been fixed, just didnt know if it could cause anything else to malfunction.

Im guessing it could be a bad CDI or Regulator? How do i test these and is there anything else it could be? I plan on pulling a regulator off a rancher, (if it fits) and see if it will start.

seeing how it shocked the crap outta ya !!!..lmfaooooo ( news flash..they bite ! )..lmfaooo..it's not a elec issue..this is not a fuel issue either..or it would have half way started on starting fluid..soooooooo..this leaves the last thing..it's a engine problem...bad ring's ?..no compression ?.bent or broken valve ?..timing is off ?..don't worry about your fuel or elec..it's not that..spec if you know it's getting fire at the plug....and you found that out the hard way !..lmfaooo.

start by setting the timing marks on the flywheel....remove the sight cap...remove the rcoil starter..if your bike has one ?..if not..you need to get to the crank's 17mm bolt..so you can rotate the crank..remove the spark plug..rotate the crank until the T mark lines up with the index in the sight hole. remove the rocker box cover..yes..you will need to remove the fuel tank..and plastic shield under it to get to the rocker box..with the valve cover off..T mark lined up..feal your valves ..they loose ?..tight ?..with feeler gauges ( i don't use them..and i don't know what the spec's are for your bike ? )..set your valves. now take a comression gauge..with the kill switch off..spark plug laying on the engine somewhere...open the throttle wide open..crank it over for a few sec's..whats the reading on your compression gauge ? i do not know what the spec's are for your motor ?..butttt..i can tell you...you need at least 100 psi min to start an engine..this does not mean you can ride it like this..it only means the engine will run...soooo..if it's at or below 100 psi ?..then your compression is too low !..bad rings ?..bent valve ?.

i agree with you shade, if it didnt fire with starting fluid, i would bet your bike has jumped time and bent a valve.

intake and exhaust valve clearance are .006

Welcome to the forums. I agree with Shade and Manny. First step would be to check your compression. I'm guessing it jumped time and/or bent a valve.

I had some people look at it, and work on it.. They think it jumped time.

Is it hard to fix?
