2000 honda recon 250 carb probblems

well here goes. bought a 2000 honda recon. old guy said he used it for deer hunting. well who knows but going up a hill it cuts out and dies. like not getting enough fuel. pull choke when it starts to spuder and its fine to go up the hill. got into some mud today and it didnt like that very well either. it has 0 throttle response but i usually ride a 400ex help? bigger jet?

Carb probably needs to be taken off and cleaned.

Not sure then, but it shouldn't need a bigger jet unless someone added a pipe and air filter or messed with the jets before. Pull the gas hose off the carb and make sure gas is flowing from the tank good. Also, check to make sure your gas cap vent isn't clogged. If putting the choke on, makes it pick back up and run good, then you're definitely not getting enough fuel for some reason.

float sticking..bad gas from last season..dirty petcock filter....clogged jets..you can not leave a atv sit for very long without running it..in todays gasoline..ethenol kills just about every carb these days.

a bad float will not only make it over flow..but also not get gas to fill up the float bowl like it should.
