Welcome to the forums.
You cannot omit the CDI or regulator. check your reverse wiring. Bypass it and look for spark. take the coil wire boot and unscrew it off of the wire take a pair of side cutters and cut about 1/2" off and screw the boot back on. check for spark then.

Welcome to the forums. Like Moose said, there's no way that you can bypass the CDI and regulator. You have to have both for the ATV to run.

hi, im having a similar issue on my '86 200sx. If i turn the key on, i can turn the lights on, hi and low, but thats it. no dash indicator lights, no starter, no spark if i pull it over, nothing. the main fuse is good and all the wires are in good shape and plugged in properly. what should i do and what can it be?

Welcome to the forums. You could have a bad neutral switch. I would unplug the green/red wire that goes to the neutral switch and temporarily ground it to the engine and see if the neutral light comes on and if the quad will start, then. If so, the neutral switch is bad.

also, i just realized, the little neutral indicator knob thing behind the shifter doesnt move, no matter what gear its in, n=but i dont beleive that has any mechanical influence, just the switch. how do i go about wiring it so its always in neutral so it will always run? my key switch is good for sure. also, is it the 2 wires coming out of the transmission kind of above the front sproket?

i got that light green one grounded, and yep, that was the trick! the light came on and it turns over now, but im not getting any spark now. I have a brand new plug on it, and i cut about 1/4 inch or so of old wire off the plug boot, then put the boot back in tightly, and still no spark. any thoughts on that? thanks again!

You didn't ground the reverse wire, too, did you? If you did, that will keep it from starting/firing since the CDI won't allow the quad to start in reverse.
How did this problem come about? Did the problem start all at once? Were you getting spark by pulling the recoil starter, before grounding the neutral wire? Has the quad been sitting for any length of time?
