how to remove swing arm on four trax

HI new here, my buddy has an 05 350 fourtrax that appears to have a bad bearing at the top of the swing arm (can grab racks and move atv side to side and see it move). My friend isnt very mechanical so he had his father in law take a look at it and said he could not remove it because there was a special nut/bolt keeping him from doing so. i am all for tearing into but my friend would like to make sure it is something we can tackle, i have not had the chance to take a good look at it so i was wondering if someone could tell me what it is? thank you.

ok i found a pretty good how to guide on the net; they are refering to it as a "castle nut looking lock nut", what would be the best way to remove this and reinstall it

if the lock nut on the...right? cant be adjusted. build a box out of plywood and 2x4. 2"-4" higher than stock frame height. use some poop, and tip the wheeler way up...then stuff yer box up in there (oh yeah, loose the lugs first) all four will be off ground. remove shock bottom, (w/jackstands to hold axle up) lower front of swingarm remove&replace bearings and reinstall in reverse order.

This sounds like the same thing i had to do to my 2005 Rancher AT 400. Sounds like its where the swing arm connects to the frame in front of the rear tires. If this is it there are two bolts, called the pivot bolts, that have to come out. They take a 17mm allen socket or allen wrench to take out. The socket is much easier to use and the bolts are extremely tight. There is also a locking nut that spins on the pivot bolt on the right that needs to be loosened first. You also need to take the bolt out of the shock on the bottom side, the rear axle, and take the brake cables off as well. Basically take all the things off that are connected to the rear swing arm as you are going to want to take it completely off and over to a bench. After it is off you will be able to get to the bearings which are a royal pain in the butt to get out. Just a thought, you might want to look at the rear wheel bearing and seal too. Mine was bad also and chances are if the swing arm bearings are shot then so is the wheel bearing and seal. There is only the one of them and it is on the left side. Changing the wheel bearing and the swing arm bearings took me about 4-5 hours so plan on having a full day to do this, also in case you need to run and get parts. If this is it and you have any questions let me know.

From what I could see is you either got to take a big Allen wrench and screw it out or Try and get the outer ring to screw out. I would say the lock nut should turn out You could try a pair of needle nose pliers and turn it out. It should look like 3 slots in the lock nut. I hope this will help. You could spray some PB Blaster in and around it and try working it loose.
