i have a stripped spark plug hole on my 400ex

any one have a stripped 400ex spark plug hole and how would i fix it?i drained the oil and there were lots of small metal shavings on the filter not in the oil that i saw.im kinda concerned this plug hole is a S.O.B to get to so any info on this would be nice thanks

uh, man, idk, its not like you can tap it oversized cause its not like they make oversized plugs lol. idk, taking a shot in the dark here. hela-coil maybe? if not, im thinkin your gonna need a new head

I wonder if the spark plug hole is replaceable? I would call a honda dealership and tell them what your problem is and see if they have anything for you. If you do need a new top end check ebay. Hopefully you’ll find something that won’t break the bank!

I called honda and they wanted to try and heli coil it isw that something i should try or should i bring it to them?I actually tried to break down my cylinder yesterday and one of the hard to get to bolts buy the muffler side just behind the heat protector is stripped on the head any ideas of how i could get that off?

I went the helicoil route in an outboard several years ago and never had a problem with it. Now I'm just rambling but could you find a plug with larger diameter threads but the same thread length and rethread to the new diameter? I believe I've seen plug charts showing diameter and depth.
