honda 300 ex carb problems!!

hey im new to the site and 4 wheelers got a 96 300ex on trade. guys said it was bored to 350 and big bore carb kit? i have cleaned the carb 3 times now and i still am not running right. after hour or two total ride time she dont want to run no more.it seem to not have power as it should when it does run. although last time it ran decent and seem to get better as i rode it. i have cleaned the tank put inline filter new fuel hose new vent hoses. my current jets are 100 and 42 from reading here i see that 100 is not right at all. so i will get a kit which do i get stage 1 or 2. and what is the recommended setup for what i have. no pipe just aftermarket can and k&n air filter. i have replaced spark plug oil filter and oil. have not done a compression test because my tester wont fit. thanks in advance for any replies

Look at the first sticky(by Josh) in this section. It should help with your jetting questions

It runs just no topend power boggs when you go to punch it.anif you sit with it at idle in neutral and punch the throttle it boggs horribly but it you go slow it does good.

Ok i bought a jet kit with a 125 130 135 main and 42. with the 135 it runs a lil better at higher rpm. but now not so good at low. i have tried all my jets and i cant get it down spark plug has tan/brown color. i even tried a jet from my 440 snowmobile now no top end tons of low end. I'm stumped ive been messing with this for weeks now. getting frustrated. i really really dont want to pay someone to do it but I'm almost to that point. do i need to go higher on main or what.

Idle, and very low speeds is controlled by the pilot jet while the main jetting controls the past 1/4 to wide open throttle positions...Prolly need to step up the main again, and increase the pilot jet size one if it still hesitates at low throttle,or doesn't oull well just off idle...Also,check,inspect,clean,re oil the air filter if it isn't already clean, and freshly oiled...Welcome to da forums...

YOu are going to need about a 140 main and pull the airbox lid off drop the slow to a 40. These are Keihin Hex sizes by the way about 2 3/4 turns out from lightly seated on the fuel screw and the needle in the 3rd clip setting

ok my air box doesnt have a lid. issue? my pilot is out 2 turns i am waiting on a new slide cause the guy that owned it before me stripped every screw on the carb. so i couldnt adjust the needle. but fixed most of them just not those little guys on the slide. needle is on the lowest setting now. so a 140 main and a 40 slow and needle at the 3rd setting and i should be good? can you clean k&n filters and reuse them or would it just be better to buy a new one mine looks pretty dirty?
