2006 680 rincon over heating problem

[I] have a buddy that bought a used rincon 680 and he drove it today, and it overheated. The fan ran sometimes, but not sure if it ran enough?
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

Welcome to the forums. Make sure your radiator fins are not clogged with mud, particularly the rear of the radiator where it's hard to see and hard to clean. I don't have any experience with the Rincon, but I've heard a lot guys talking about the radiators getting clogged up with mud and not getting the proper air flow through the radiator, causing it to run hot.

You can't properly wash the part of the rad that sits behind the oil cooler, this will be clogged with mud even when you think it has been washed. He need to remove some plastics to expose the rad then install some spacers to get the oil cooler to sit 1/2" or so ahead of the rad.

1st picture you can see mud behind the cooler blocking what I thought was a clean rad.

Yeah - no overheating problems all last season since spacing the oil cooler. Still wash it out dilegently after each mud adventure. Had to buy longer bolts to secure to the rad once the cooler was moved out. I put lots of no sieze on the steel blots to get away from the aluminum/steel corrosion issue. I also believe switching to synthetic oil helps the engines run a little cooler and if you do get real hot the synthetic doesn't break down as quickly.

Spacer will solve your problem

I have to agree, once a spacer between the rad and the oil cooler is placed the has been no more overheating issues, from the factory the oilcooler is too close to the rad which also makes it very hard to clean.
Its a relatively easy job at a very low cost
