Why is my 300ex so slow?

I have a 95 300ex. It has no air box lid with a k&n air filter, no name slip on exhaust, wiseco 11:1 piston (stock jets as far as I know, stock cdi but I have an amr on the way, and stock cam). My friends blaster walks away from it like I'm standing still and the sad thing is my other friends stock 07 250ex slowly pulls away as well. What is wrong with my quad? Thanks for any help

what gearing are you running and the blaster is a 2 stroke any 2 stroke is gonna walk a 4 in take off most of the time
86 honda big red 250es all original, snorkeled, 25' zillas ,plastic tank halogen fog lights.
03 honda xr100r full pro circuit pipe,renthal bars,jet kit,uni filter.
03 kfx 400, 440 big bore kit,full fmf,k&n air filter,jet kit,10" itp ss rims paddles.

sounds to me like its geared way down for better torque. so if you are happy with it everywhere except top end, when you make the gearing taller you will lose some bottom end.

There is your answer. Stock jets on a quad that has no lid, after market filter, and higher compression piston. I would say that you are running extremely lean. Too much air, not enough fuel.

The Blaster is a 200cc 2 stroke, it's power is up near that of a 400. It should beat a 300.

I second Red, you need to rejet your quad.. Dynojet makes good kits for open air boxes and slip-ons. Hear is a link for dynojet, http://http://www.dynojet.com/jetkits/atv/honda.aspx, although you can get the same product for about $10 cheeper at rockymountainatvmc.com. If you want a major jump in power get an aftermarket cam.

A stock Blaster has around 19hp, vs. your 300, which is probably less, and is probably heavier. A stock Blaster does around 55mph, which is what a stock 300 ex should run close to also on top end, but the Blaster will out accelerate it.
If your getting beat by a 250ex, which uses a recon engine, and a non pumper carb with less hp, and a top speed in the 45 to 48mph range(I think)I agree with the above posts,,, with mods you have to rejet, or simply put it back to stock if you can. I would find out the stock compression numbers for the 300ex, and check yours to see if there is a difference. With it running lean the way it is, it will damage the engine over time causing it to lose power.
Read your plug as was stated, but it will appear whiter than they used to with todays ethanol fuel due to it burns hotter than non-ethanol fuel.

Do you get popping on deceleration and does it seem like it runs out of steam on the top end in each gear?

I've owned several Hondas over the years, with 2, 3 and 4 wheels.
Currently have a 1979 ATC 110 and 1985 XL350R enduro.

Jet it bro I think you will see a world of a difference. not to mention the Blaster has 1 more gear then you do. but you still should beat it or come really close

I have an almost stock 300. only got a k&n but it's closed lid. and my younger brother has a blaster. i normally outstrip him by 2-3 quad lenghts on a rolling start(completely bald itp's) he has a higher top speed but i got him beat in acceleration..
