fix the knocking or just ride

Looked at 2 300ex today, both have loud knock in top end, first thought was lifters, but this is loud, looked at videos on youtube of loose cam chain and sounded just like it. Wants $1000 apiece for bikes both mid 90s. He wasn't worried about noise, said his mechanic friend said they were ok. One bike smokes quite a bit, so i,m sure it needs top end work. Bikes have been rode, no show bike here. Do guys ride their bikes with this knock, it would drive me crazy.

lol, pass on that "steal". You'll be sorry. $1000 for each? Man, I can find 300ex's all day long for $1000-$1200 that are in good shape! For $1500, you can get 400ex.

That noise could be the rocker arms or worn cam shaft. I had that same problem on my '85 250 fourtrax, not cheap ,but it fixed now! I agree either stay away from the deal or offer the guy no more than a 1,000 for both .
