87 Honda 350 fourtrax steering bushing??

I have slack in my steering of my '87 350 fourtrax. When you grab the handle bars you can shake them back and forth quite a bit. There must be some kind of bushing up toward the top of the bars; I know there is on the 300's. I can't seem to find the part number or a place to order a new one. Help please.

I had the same problem on my 86 350 fourtrax. There is a bushing at the
BOTTOM of the steering stem. Probably worn out. Not hard to change and doesn't
cost much.

ok.. hopefully this works from my phone... I've attached (or at least tried) a parts picture... here is the link for my local dealers parts fiche but it lists the part #'s... you want #15 on the picture, along with the rest of the parts for that bearing..

these parts are listed under the "steering shaft" section.

*just realized I looked up a 1986, so I went back and checked 1987 and the part #'s are the same.

ok, just looked at it better... from the picture, you will need #'s 2,12,6,15,11,10... now go to the link I posted, and look up those diagram #'s, write down the Honda part #'s listed and either call ur local dealer, or search the web. ATV Parts, ATV Tires, Dirt Bike Parts, Motocross Gear, Motorcycle parts and Motorcycle Tires | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC is a good place to start.

*edit* you might wanna tear urs apart before u order everything to make sure the arm that your shaft goes through (#3 on the pic) isn't rounded out. depending on how long that bearing has been screwed, it may have caused this.

first off..thanks for trying cable...lol..as to you..and the OP ?..there is no bushing in the top of the trx350 stearing steem....trx300's..yeah..somewhat of one..rubber bushing to be correct. as for the trx350's..from '86-'89 ??..there isn't nothing but a plastic sleave in the top...and this is what he's talking about here. remember where i grinded for 2 hours on that bearing race to put in mine ???..because it was badly worn out ?...sooo..this or something like it...is what he's gonna have to do !. the pic's you posted..thats for just the lower part of the shaft..not the top.

well Damnit, the one time I thought I was actually helping someone else, and there's my balloon, a pile of rubber-shrapnel on the ground. lol gotta admit though, that picture is a bit decieving.... please admit it? Lmao

lol..i'm not knocking ya for trying !!!..it's the effort that counts !!..lol. yeah..some micro fich suck..they don't give enough detail on all the parts...sooooooo..unless you have rebuilt a few of these bikes like me ??..you did not know what is what..and where it goes !..lol.

Anybody have a good recipe for crow ??
I gotta eat some !!
I went out and took a good look under the quad & wiped things off.
The bottom of the steering stem looked like it should after 35 years.
A few inches ahead of that right behind the guard is another pivot point.
This one wiped off clean - like new parts. A couple years ago I left quad at
a friends house with my original complaint - sloppy steering. While I was out
of town on business he ordered parts and fixed it. I paid him for the parts
and it worked like new. I never looked under there until tonight.
Now I know nothing was done to the bottom end of steering stem.
The quad steers great with NOTHING ever done to top or bottom of steering stem.

I feel like an idiot because I gave bad info to David with 14 posts.

And Shade - since I have one of these quads I have read EVERY single post on
your build. And looked at EVERY picture !! And ashamed to say, I stole some of the pics
for my own future use.
