honda fourtrax 300 fw 1997

its it normal for it to struggle to speed up in 5th gear, it just takes it a while to reach full speed on a paved road.

nope..it's not..sooooooooo..your next question is gonna be..what is causing mine to go slow then ...right ?..lol..could be a few things..clutch slipping..bad gas ( doubtful though )..a carb problem from the sounds of it.

i'm sure you read my how to clean a carb..to answer your question..yes..it will effect your motor's carb..and how your bike runs..set your fuel/air screw out 2 1/2 turns from a lightly seated, it should run good then..if not..then we'll take it from there.

try doing this..see if it helps..on the top of the carb..remove the 4 screws..remove the spring..remove the diaphram..pull the main plunger out..with a philips screw driver..reach down inside the plunger..turn the plastic main jet needls hold down counter clockwise..this piece comes out...and it holds your main needle jet in...carefully take the main jet needle out..as you will see..it has a c-clip on it ?..some..if not most of these have a tiny tiny washer ..don't loose it !, look and see where your c-clip is cliped on the main jet needle ?..there are 5 grooves on the needle..stock setting is in the 3rd groove down from the top..better known as the middle groove..put the clip there..slide the washer back on from the bottom..where it rest under the c-clip..then set the needle back down inside the plunger..put your plastic hold down back down inside the plunger..about half a turn clockwise..until it locks in place..put it back in the carb..diaphram..spring..then top...see how it runs ?.

Do you have upgraded wheels and tires? Larger tires cause the 300's to struggle in high gear, at least in my own experience
