Well I picked up a 98 300ex rolling chassis today off of craigs list for 125.00. I am going to use the frame to replace mine since mine is really rusted out on the bottom. The wheels and tires are going on my son's TRX90. The tires are Kenda Klaw XCR nearly new front size is 20X6-10 and rear is 18X10.5-9. I am going to use the rear plastics they are in great shape the seat is rough but the foam is good. I'll get the frame blasted and painted. it has been repaired just behind the left footpeg but no biggie I just have to clean the weld up and shape it. I will start the change over after our Busco trip unless I feel froggy and try to get it completed by the time we go. I know I want blue for the frame. I'm just not sure what I'm going to pair with it http://
Yeah the little rubber tits are still on the fronts and some on the rear. I have blue on my engine I'm looking to paint the frame that color. I'm just not sure about the plastics yet
I know it is a pretty nasty weld job but it's nothing a grinder won't make look pretty again. lol I'll have it torn down tomorrow, the swinarm and carrier are in great shape too.
The guy actually wanted 400 for it with a bad engine but i told him I didn't really need the engine so he told me I could get what you see for what I paid. so i drove 2 hours and got it.
just 2 hour's ???????????????....mannnnnnnn..that sure is along time !!..wait...try driving 28 hours straight to FL and back !..2 hours my azz !!!....whatta wuss !..lmfaoooooooooooo.
This evening after I get home from work I will be pulling the 300 up on the lift and start disassembling it. I have some good usable spare parts to put in the junk shed. lol
Well I got the frame stripped tonight I'm taking it to work tomorrow and cleaning up the bubblegum weld by the left footpeg and re-weld it.
I have decided on a frame color I put some on a socket since its a bright base to show you guys what it will basically look like. http://
Well I took the fram in today and had the weld cleaned up I'll be taking it over to my friend to have him sand blast it for me the off to prime and paint!!!
I have been doing a good bit of research since lastnight on ways to incorporate an oil cooler. I can take the easy road and cut the feed line to the head and install one, I didn't want that in fear of restrictons in flow. I also took my old oil filter cover drilled and tapped that but it's definitely prehistoric lol. I started looking at the 350X oil cooling system. the clutch case is identicle with the exception of the reverse switch and lever.
the 250X clutch cover has the casting marks for the return line that the 350X has. The feed line comes off of the oil filter cover and
will fit the 250X BONUS!! lol so. . . . I will be looking at purchasing the 350X oil cooler, cooler lines and oil filter cover. I will carry my spare clutch cover to the machine shop once I get the cooler and lines and heve them machine the hole to fit the line properly.
Here are a few photos of the 250 case cover and the 350x case cover, you will see what I am talking about. http://
I marked the case to show where I am talking about http://
I also want to add that I am changing out my front shocks on this build and with the help of a custom relocator bracket from Mountain Man Engineering it will look sweet!!
I'm gonna be watching this one...
I love to see rebuilds, especially with custom mods haha
