i would think the valve lock nuts would hold it all through temp ranges ??..i'll know tomorrow..i'm not gonna go out there and mess with it tonight..it got veryyyyyyy windy and cold !.

i believe if it were a slack adjuster it would do it no matter what the operating temp....i'm betting its a loose valve.

i agree manny..if it was the slack adjuster...it would do it as soon as i cranked it up !..what is odd though..if it was a loose valve ??..then why doesn't it make any noise either when i first crank it up ?..it doesn't start to tick so to speak..until after it get's nice and warm ?!. that's what has me stumped !!!. if i get a chance saturday ?..i'm gonna pull the gas tank..heat shield..and pull the rocker box cover...and re-check my valves again !!..i really don't think it's my cam chain or slack adjuster...and i'm prettyyyyyyyy sure ?!..lol...i tightend down all the bolts back there !..lol. sooo..first chance i get saturday..i'm gonna get to the bottom of this !..well..in this case..get to the top end !!..lol. i'm just glad i caught this now..instead of wayyyyyy after it's all together...and come find out that the motor would indeed have to be pulled !..lmfaooo. i just hope it is a loose valve ?!!!!..that would rock my world if it was ?..lol. i'm not looking forward to pulling this motor again..butttttttt..if i have to...now is the time to do it..instead of later down the road !.

Shade... Your intake valve ain't adjusted right, lol. Just a little too lose I'd bet ya. On my zuki if you didn't have it adjusted just right it wouldn't make a peep until it warmed up, then once the metal expanded it would start ticking... So, hopefully you don't have to pull the engine all back apart, lol.

i hope your right dan !!!..i'm not looking forward to pulling this motor out again !!..lol...still..i've set many valves by feal..and not once did i have to go back..and redo them !..this has me puzzled big time ! i know i did not leave a valve lock nut loose..or it woulda started clacking right off the bat !..been there..done that on motor cycle i was working on...and no..it wasn't mine !..lol. i have heard loose valves alot..and i know what they sound like from the first start up !!!..what blows my mind here is..it only does it after it get's warm to hot ??..that's what has me stumped..i have never ran across any valves that loosened up after the motor got warm ?!. maybe it's these motors ???..i don't know..but i'ma gonna figure it out..one way or another !!..lmfao.

and to also add to this..when metal get's hot..valves in this case..they expand..this part is right..butttttttttttttttt..when these valves get hot..and expand..they should not make a ticking noise from this ?..because i know for a fact..if the metal expands..if anything..it would make the valves tighter..which in turn..would not run right at all after it got warm or hot !..if the valve got hot..and expanded..this would make the valve kinda stay open..so to speak..herby..not getting good compression..this is how i got this in my head anyway !..lol.

Nut-uh, lol. I've worked on a couple bikes that won't make a noise until they get hot, re-adjust the intake valve and they won't make any noise once its warm. Its all in the nature of the bike.... imo. I can't explain why, its just the way it is, lol.

welllllllllllllllll..after taking another stab at the valves ( and noooooo diab..i don't need feeler gauges ! )..lol...it's not the valves..i'm almost positive now..it's the slack adjuster !..upon further running ..it boils down to the slack adjuster...soo..( sigh )..i've got to either pull the motor ?.or pull the rear end out..so i can get the rear engine cover off. this suckssssssssss..lol...well..i guess the good new's is..if you wanna call it that ?..lol..is it's doing it now..instead of later after i had it completed !!..lol.
