Sorry, just thought this was funny...

ANYWAY! Looking to buy my first. I'm 29, 6'1", 190lbs. I'm looking to make my first ATV/UTV purchase. I'm going to go with Honda because I've seen em in action and one of my old friends/bosses owns and races them with his son.

I've been to a dealership (Honda of Fairfield, Cincinnati, OH) and had a look around. I'm looking for something that would be used from anything as easy as a little light trail riding to pulling pieces of tree weighing in excess of 600lbs. The spokesman at the dealership said a 499cc Rubicon would best suit my needs because it's not made for speed (Which does not interest me, I want only something that will pull whatever I ask it to pull). He also said that a solid rear suspension is best for what I want to do, as opposed to an independent where the wheels would move separately. Also, I've been reading a lot on here about manual shift vs electronic shift. Am I looking for drum or disc brakes? The Rube has front disc, rear drum (enclosed). It's a lot of questions, but I prefer asking them here as opposed to a dealership.

It's really sharp looking, but if I'm going to pay what I think I am, I want to know what I'm talking about.

Im into the sport ATV's but there is a few guys on hear that will be able to give you some good advice. Welcome to the forums.

I would suggest a manual shift over the auto or eletronic shift, less problems. I like disc brakes because they do not trap stuff inside when under water.

Based on what you said then I think you definitately want a foreman of some flavor. It really just depends on what you like, automatic or manual, liguid or air cooled, carb pr injected, etc.

Agree^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The Foreman is a Great Machine and low maintnance.

If you are looking for dependable, I would get a foot shift, because I think they are more dependable. Some people will say the electric shift is just as dependable if you do regular maintenance on them, but that can't be true, because they will eventually go out, anyway. Everyone I know that has the electric shift has had problems at one time or another. Even if your battery gets low for some reason, you will have problems with it. I don't even like driving one with the electric shift. That's just my opinion, though. You may like them. I would stay away from the Rubicon models, because I have heard of a lot of problems with the transmission. The Rubicon is also a Foreman, but with a different transmission. I would just get the Foreman 500 with foot shift, especially if you are going to be pulling with it.

I like the disc brakes, also, but the front disc/rear drum setup on the Foreman 500 works great. It's hard to beat a Foreman.

I'm new to this on-line forum stuff along with now owning a 2005 600 fourtrax rincon with auto/man. trans.
the person i got it from was a idiot and ran it with very low/no oil and I'm now having it all fixed.
we've been seeing that almost every part we've been replacing has been changed and/or upgraded.
we're not happy with what we've been finding and i would like to know if anybody out there can tell me if I'm waisting my time/money with this thing ???

Welcome to the Forum David!
I don't know much about the quad you are asking about. It all depends on how much you have spent and are going to spend and the condition of what you have. It may be cheaper to get a working or new one after a total overhaul.
