Brand New recon 250 es?
So i stopped today on my way home from work at a local dealer to ask about the pricing on a brand new Honda recon 250 es. He told me straight up that it was $3799 without taxes or "fees". I asked what the OTD price is and he told me $4300.... I found this kinda high. Where I live (around Lafayette Louisiana) there is a 8% sales tax. And I'm pretty certain that he is just making up these "fees" for a few extra bucks. The MSRP on a 2012 recon is $4099. What do you guys think is a reasonable OTD price for a brand new recon?
Also, on craigslist I have seen quite a few recons for sale. I am a little skeptical about buying a used bike, even though they are much cheaper, because I don't know where it has been, or what its been through. One add, however, is selling (2) 2007 Honda recons (not es)for $2200 a piece, or $4000 for the pair. The bikes in the picture look to be in good shape, and I am considering taking a look at them. I would like to know yalls opinions on new vs used bikes.

Im just a little skeptical buying used lol. The add on craigslist wasn't from a dealer. If it were, I would feel alot more comfortable buying it used.

Yeah I know what ya mean. I looked and found a few private sellers when I was looking but a dealer is a better bet on a good machine.

Last year I paid 2k for a 2005 ES that looked pretty much like new. It has been perfect so far and is great to ride around. I found it on craigslist and felt very good after going to the guys house. His garage was so clean and organized you could have done surgery in it. He had all the original sales records.... If you can be patient and spend some time you can save a lot of money shopping for used but it clearly takess more work than going to the dealer.
Good luck,
Mark

if you do go through CL ?.. do not send anything without seeing them in person first..there is wayyyyyyy too many scams about this !!..recons are nice little atv's..take care of them..they will last a very long time. and i'm not crazy about any elec shift atv's !..lol. oh..and 4300 seem's a bit steep..shop around..see who has the best price ?..even if it's another dealer in another state ?..then go back to that dealer you went to..and say..look here..i can go to such and such..and get this same atv for this price..do i have to go there..and buy it from them ?..or can you match it ??..if they wanna make a sale..they will match it !..what ever you do ??..when you get there..don't let them bs you !..if you don't like what your hearing ??..then flat out tell them...no thanks !..i'll go buy it from so and so..what ya wanna bet..they will try to stop you from going to someone else ???..lol.

Thanks! yeah, if i buy used, i will definatley check it out exstensivley and take a test drive and all that. I'll also watch out for scams. Should i call other dealers out of state and see what they can offer me? Because i have been looking online and can't find any dealers sites that has their prices on it. They only show the MSRP. I've ridden plenty of atvs but this will be the first one that i buy. So i guess im kinda new to all this. I appreciate all the advise i can get.

I wouldn't ever buy a new atv personally. I prefer used and always will. If you know what to look for and address any mechanical problems as soon as you buy it and keep up on the maintenance, a used atv will be the best thing for you. Plus you'll enjoy ownership more when you put your own time and hardwork into fixing/maintaining it.
