I agree used vs new is a conundrum. I bought my recon used and didnt have any issues. Recons are a very reliable machine, they havent changed much in a long time for a reason. Heres a 2011 recon new with es from the dealer I bought my quads from, they are the best priced in Oklahoma.
Honda 2011 FourTrax® Recon® ES (TRX®250TE) ATVs
You can also check www.hondaofstillwater.com and look in the pre-owned section there is a 2007 used recon for like $2799 and www.bartlesvillecyclesports.com has a 2007 recon for $2499. I bought this same quad also with yellow plastics and it was a great starter quad. Oh by the way, welcome to the forums from OK. Are you from Louisiana?

Thanks everyone! i sent some requests for quotes to those two dealers and will pretty much spend all day shopping around for the lowest price. And yalls personal experiences with buying used atv's is really making me feel more comfortable buying used. I appreciate it. And yes, im from southern Louisiana

I was wondering cause the two I listed are in northern ok and quite a drive. Hopefully you'll find the one you want. I'm not personally a fan of ES but it's just a a personal thing, but the ES option generally adds $200 to the cost, usually.

Yea, i was a little worried about the distance, but if it's worth it, i'd make the drive. And the only reason i like the es, is it floods alot around where i live, so i wouldnt have to get my foot wet while shifting lol. However, i would settle for a foot shift.

So far, the OTD prices i've gotten have been 4500, 4300, 4350, and 4275..... it's looking like ima be buying used lol. I dont want to spend more then 4000 on a new one. Do you guys think that footshift models are a little more dependable?

Yes. The reason is there is no elecrtric motor or shifting sensors to go out. But on the es, if it did go out whie on trail, there is a manual shifter you can put on to get you back to truck or where ever.

Why a 2wd? Most of your area is swampy and a 4wd will really come in handy.

those 250 recons are probably the best out in that class. for your wife or kid kid around 14. nephew has the 250 es and just abuses the heck out of it still runs like new. most dealers only drop 200.00 off msrp, but they are well worth it, they will last a responsible person nearly a life time. buy new if your looking to keep for along time, unless you can find one an older person had. new you get the 1 year warranty.
