well over the byrs I have seen some SMALL tree's bushes have roots that went down about 20 ft and out about 100 , and MAN they were work to Pull out, ATV didn;t work, 8500 lb 4x4 truck wouldn;'t budge them, and I can recall on one shrub, me and a few buddys were , par taking in on some cold beverages, and we decided to PULL it out, started out a friendly wager of , the chevy dodge ford deal, and we each took turns hooking up to it, and this was a shrub with about a 8 inch dai trunk to it, NOT huge, and we were pulling down a HILL.
we all failed on first trys,
then second's we got a little more aggressive on throttle and speeds>
FORD blew its rear end trying!
chevy just spun its brains out
My dodge??
well, I had about 100 ft of chain, and gave it about 80 ft of slack and a floored it , when that chain ran out of free chain,, the front of the truck came off the ground, stopped me dead in my tracks, and about went thru the window LOL
needless to say, NO winner was there but ALMOST the tree,
we went and got a little back hoe, and dug it out, and lite it on fire HAHA< killed one truck, almost broke mine, and MAN that was a SMALL tree ,
its crazy how well they can seat themselves into the ground with them darn roots!
and then some times you can hook up to a BIG old tree and they will pull right out, almost at idle in 4x4 in a truck, or even an ATV!!
But hooking up higher, tend to add a LOT of leverage to things and tips them and that tends to BRING there roots UP and breaks many, and THEN again you can PULL em out rather easier
if you ever watch a excavator knock trees down, they will go up high and just push and down the go, can even do that with most things withj a front end loader, as long as you have the weight on your side over size of tree!
