Is backfiring bad? i know what backfiring is (too much gas, not enough air) i just don't know if it's bad for your motor and what not

my is300 (car) back fires lol... i wouldn't say it is. its normal if you have an exhaust... but could also mean your carbs not adjusted right

might need to check the air to fuel mixture screw for adjustment and is it engine backfire or exhaust back fire neither is good and can over time will ruin your engine internals and need fixing

It's definitely exhaust backfire, i am almost positive that it's too rich, because when it is idling then i rev it real quick very little black smoke comes out of it, but it's a fresh rebuild and its been jetted, and i also have a new slip on (pro circuit t4)

If it only backfires on decel then you'll need to fatten up the idle mixture.Your main jet may be a little rich if it is blowing black smoke.

if you remove the arrestor and it backfires it's probably too lean, back the fuel screw out 1/4-1/2 turn. What jets are you running?
